DOCTORAL DEFENCES

Sara Tähtinen will defend the doctoral dissertation entitled “Numerical and analytical investigations of physics beyond the Standard Model” on 16 November 2018 at 10:15 E204, Physicum. Associate professor Germano Nardini, University of Stavanger, will serve as the opponent, and Professor Kari Rummukainen as the custos.

 

OPEN POSITION AT THE LUT UNIVERSITY IN LAPPEENRANTA

Tenure track position: Associate / Full Professor in Technical Physics,

especially Instrumentation in Particle Physics

The position will be filled for a fixed term of four years (associate professor) or until further notice (full professor). The holder of the professorship is expected to successfully continue LUT’s contribution to the activity of HIP. The duties of the professorship include the promotion of research on technical physics in LUT’s key strategic areas in cooperation with all of LUT’s schools.

OPEN POSITION AT LBNL

The Physics Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) has an opening for a Staff Scientist to work half-time in the Particle Data Group (PDG, pdg.lbl.gov) and half-time on research in one of the Physics Division programs.

The successful candidate will be expected to take on significant responsibilities in the PDG group and play an important role in the Physics Division’s research program. Candidates in experimental and theoretical particle physics and cosmology are encouraged to apply.

Post doc scholarships

Persons who recently have obtained their PhD may apply for a postdoctoral scholarship. The purpose of a postdoctoral scholarship is to enable the grantee to further develop as a researcher. Applicants for a postdoctoral scholarship may also apply for support for research related costs and travel. A separate application for these purposes must be made.

Graduate student scholarships

The graduate student stipend can be awarded for a period of one year or a half year, preferably for the period 1.7. – 31.12. to a student who has been accepted by the university as a doctoral student. The stipend can be awarded conditionally to a student about to graduate.

Project grants

Leaders of research groups may also apply for larger project support that can be divided over a period of two to three years. The project grants are awarded for one year at a time. Continuation of the support is granted upon application, the decision being based on the progress report included with the application.
