HIP CMS Upgrade Project is in charge of the Finnish participation in the CMS Tracker
and its future upgrade.
The Tracker is based on silicon sensors, and it is the largest silicon
detector ever constructed. It is the innermost
detector of the CMS (Compact Muon Solenoid)
experiment, located just around the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) beam pipe.
The main activities:
- Development of radiation hard silicon detectors for future high energy physics experiments,
with a main focus on CMS Tracker upgrade. - Operation and maintenance of the CMS Silicon Beam Telescope (CMS SiBT) that is used
for CMS Tracker upgrade detector tests at CERN H2 and FNAL MTest.
