CERN BootCamp — one-week intensive course at CERN in June 2024 (10 ECTS at UH, course code PAP4131)

Would you like to solve a great societal problem in an inspiring atmosphere during a one-week intensive course at CERN in June 2024? Then check out the CERN BootCamp opportunity! Traveling costs covered by Helsinki Institute of Physics (HIP).

CERN BootCamp is an innovative and unique study concept, in which Master students from different Universities solve demanding societal problems or challenges of the case companies. Themes of 2024 are based on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of UN. In previous years, students have selected topics such as reducing plastic pollution, making climate change effects visual to consumers, or a humanitarian challenge.

At CERN BootCamp, students will learn how to apply service design approach and tools to design sustainable innovations. Students will adopt a holistic approach to all aspects of service innovation and development and will be able to act as a developer in open innovation networks.

Master students of HIP member Universities (UH, Aalto, JYU, LUT, TAU) can apply during the application period of 27th November 2023 – 31st January 2024. More information and application instructions is available here (Laurea).

CERN BootCamp is an innovative and unique study concept, in which Master students from different Universities solve demanding societal problems or challenges of the case companies. Themes of 2022 are based on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of UN. For instance, in 2018 and 2019, students selected topics such as reducing plastic pollution, making climate change effects visual to consumers, or a humanitarian challenge.

At CERN BootCamp, students will learn how to apply service design approach and tools to design sustainable innovations. Students will adopt a holistic approach to all aspects of service innovation and development and will be able to act as a developer in open innovation networks.

Master students of HIP member Universities (UH, Aalto, JYU, LUT, TAU) can apply during the application period of 14th January – 31th January 2022.

The CERN Bootcamps 2020 & 2021 were cancelled due to the COVID-19 situation.

CERN BootCamp 2019 was an innovative and unique study concept for Master students. The concept is co-created by University of HelsinkiCERN, Metropolitan area Universities of Applied Sciences, and companies. The focus of the studies is to solve demanding societal problems or challenges of the case companies. Selected themes can ccover issues such as reducing plastic pollution in practice, making climate change effects visual to consumers in purchase decision situations, utilizing open data for example in health care, or minimizing the gap between employers´ needs and workforce´s skills and capabilities. CERN and local companies as well as universities offer facilitators and mentors for student groups.
