Zimányi Medal

Prof. Aleksi Kurkela (University of Stavanger and CERN), an alumnus of our department and a frequent collaborator and visitor of HIP, has been awarded the prestigious Zimányi Medal of 2019 for his contributions to heavy-ion and neutron star research. DOCTORAL DEFENCES

Arttu Pönni will defend the doctoral dissertation entitled “Holographic Studies of Entanglement Measures” in the Faculty of Science, University of Helsinki, on 12 December 2019 at 14:00, Exactum, auditorium CK112. Professor Javier Mas, University of Santiago de Compostela, will serve

as the opponent, and Associate Professor Aleksi Vuorinen as the custos.

The tinkering workshop event is targeted at people of all ages, and the stations are open during its entire three-hour duration.

It is part of the Smart as HEL series investigating the intersections of accelerating digitalisation and human skills.

 

The Invisible made visible station is run by the researchers and engineers from the Helsinki Institute of Physics.
What is radiation? What is electricity? Come see and try out for yourself how the invisible can be made visible. Build an electric piano and disco lights.

Post doc scholarships

Persons who recently have obtained their PhD may apply for a postdoctoral scholarship. The purpose of a postdoctoral scholarship is to enable the grantee to further develop as a researcher. Applicants for a postdoctoral scholarship may also apply for support for research related costs and travel. A separate application for these purposes must be made.

Graduate student scholarships

The graduate student stipend can be awarded for a period of one year or a half year, preferably for the period 1.7. – 31.12. to a student who has been accepted by the university as a doctoral student. The stipend can be awarded conditionally to a student about to graduate.

Project grants

Leaders of research groups may also apply for larger project support that can be divided over a period of two to three years. The project grants are awarded for one year at a time. Continuation of the support is granted upon application, the decision being based on the progress report included with the application.
