“Bayesian CT-HMM for nAMD fluid dynamics”
Abstract: In neovascular age-related macular degeneration, retinal fluid on optical coherence tomography scans is a key marker of disease activity during anti-VEGF treatment. This work uses a Bayesian continuous-time hidden Markov model with imperfect fluid detection and informative drop-out to relate fluid status after the first three monthly injections (equivalent to a standard loading phase) in the CATT trial to later fluid persistence. Eyes still showing fluid at month 3 spend considerably more of the follow-up with fluid than eyes in which it had resolved, yet those with only subretinal fluid keep visual acuity comparable to the resolved group.
