“Initializing a uniform and isotropic universe”
Abstract: Generating a uniform and isotropic particle distribution (i.e., particle load or pre-initial condition) is the very first step for a cosmological simulation, and critically influences the simulated structures. In this talk, I will introduce and discuss our recent methods in setting up uniform and isotropic particle distributions, especially for simulations including both dark matter and baryons.

Haonan Zheng (Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics, Peking University)
“The population and diversity of HI-rich “dark” galaxies in simulations”
Abstract: In this talk, I plan to present our preliminary results on HI-rich, (almost) dark galaxies in the Hestia and Auriga simulations. Taking advantage of Hestia’s large, constrained simulation volume, we predict their number density out to 3.7 Mpc, and provide their population’s range in halo, gas, and HI properties. We find diversity in gas and HI mass beyond the dependence on halo mass, and further investigate its origin with the Auriga simulations. Case studies indicate that their environment, merger histories, and equilibrium states might be the contributing factors.
