DOCTORAL DEFENCE

Santeri Laurila, M.Sc. (Tech.), will defend his Doctoral dissertation entitled ”Search for Charged Higgs Bosons Decaying to a Tau Lepton and a Neutrino with the CMS Experiment” on the 18th of October 2019 at 12.00 in the auditorium CK112 at Exactum, Gustaf Hällströmin katu 2 B. Professor Bill Murray from the University of Warwick, UK,  will serve as the opponent, and the custos will be Professor Paula Eerola, a Vice-Rector of the University of Helsinki.

KUMPULA PHYSICS COLLOQUIUM ON 11.10.2019 AT 14.15 IN D101

The next Kumpula Physics colloquium will take place on Friday, October 11. Our speaker is Prof. Tuija Pulkkinen, a renowned space physicist and Chair of the Department of Climate and Space Sciences and Engineering at the University of Michigan, USA. The title of Tuija’s talk is “Wellbeing in the academia – how to achieve the oxymoron?”

The talk will last about 30 minutes, after which there will be a cocktail reception. Welcome!

NUSPRASEN WORKSHOP ON NUCLEAR SCIENCE APPLICATIONS, 25-27 NOVEMBER 2019, HELSINKI

The NUSPRASEN Workshop on Nuclear Science Applications in Helsinki from 25 to 27 November 2019 is organized within the NUSPRASEN work package of ENSAR2, the integrating activity for European research in Nuclear Structure, Nuclear Reactions and Applications of Nuclear Science (www.ensarfp7.eu, www.nusprasen.net).

Invited speakers will set the stage for sessions on nuclear science applications in medicine, heritage science, nuclear safety, security and safequards, and collaboration with and the needs of industry. Contributed presentations will be selected from the abstracts submitted before October 14.

REGISTRATION IS OPEN: NORDIC NETWORK FOR DIVERSITY IN PHYSICS CONFERENCE IN HELSINKI NOVEMBER 4TH-5TH, 2019

Representatives of all genders are welcome to submit an abstract on either physical sciences or diversity/equality work in the field of physics. Special focus of the conference is implicit bias. The maximum length of the abstract is 3000 characters (approximately one A4 with a 12 pt font).

Registration closes on Tuesday 15 October 2019.
