Riina Virta, DI will defend the doctoral dissertation entitled “Gamma tomography of spent nuclear fuel for
geological repository safeguards” in the Faculty of Science, University of Helsinki, on 4 June 2024 at 12:15. The public examination will take place at the following address: Physicum, sali E204, Gustaf Hällströmin katu 2.
Associate Professor Sophie Grape, Uppsala University, will serve as the opponent, and Peter Dendooven as the custos.

KUMPULA PHYSICS COLLOQUIUM (HYBRID), FRIDAY 31.5.2024
Kumpula colloquium on Friday, May 31, 2024, at 14:15 in Physicum E204 is a special occasion as we honor the legacy of the late Professor Peter Higgs, Nobel laureate and visionary in particle physics, crucial to theorizing the existence of a key particle that later completed the Standard Model. Professor Kimmo Tuominen of the University of Helsinki will highlight Higgs’ theoretical contributions, followed by Professor Mikko Voutilainen who will discuss the experimental discovery of the Higgs boson. The presentations are also available via Zoom.
