Helime Ruotsalainen, FM will defend the doctoral dissertation entitled “Entanglement as a Probe of Holographic Gauge Theory Phases” in the Faculty of Science, University of Helsinki, on 25 September 2025 at 13:00. The public examination will take place at the following address: Athena, sali 107, Siltavuorenpenger 3 A.
Associate professor Matthew Lippert, SUNY Westbury, will serve as the opponent, and Niko Jokela as the custos.
The dissertation will be published in the series HIP-Internal Report Series.

(På svenska) FSF & FKS Höstseminarium 2025
Fysikersamfundet i Finland and Finska Kemistsamfundet are organizing a public seminar 8/10 17:00 at Vetenskapernas Hus – Tieteiden Talo (Kyrkogatan 6) on the latest trends in Physics and Chemistry. The seminar will be mainly in Swedish, except for Tenkanen, who will speak in English. The speakers will be:
- Tommi Tenkanen, author: “Quantum computer – Start of a revolution?”.
- Erik Holm from Bluefors, which develops cooling systems for quantum computers.
- Fredrik Ek, CEO at Xylo Gas: “Mer värde ur energived: Biokol och syntesgas i stället för enbart värme. Kemisk energi och material i stället för enbart fysikalisk energi”.
- Sara Ekman, energy specialist at Ramboll: “Förnybar energi för produktion av grönt väte och vätebaserade derivat”.

FAIR FELLOW AND ASSOCIATE POSITIONS, CALL DEADLINE 15.10.2025
The FAIR Fellow and Associate Programme aims at attracting the brightest scientists in the FAIR research fields, by offering individuals unique opportunities for scientific and technological work at FAIR accelerator facility in Darmstadt, Germany, for a limited period. There are two types of support possible:
- Fellowships: Addresses early-career scientists, which seek a time-limited employment at FAIR (2 year with the possibility to extend for 1 additional year). Up to 5 fellowships per year are expected to be granted.
- Associates: Addresses mid-career and senior scientists with a position at a university or an institute in a partner country, who intend spending a prolonged period at FAIR (between 3 months and 1 year). The number of grants will depend on the excellence of applicants.
Applications are usually reviewed twice a year: in Spring and Autumn. For the next session, the deadline is set to the 15th of October 2025.

The Pool’s Autumn Call
The Post Doc Pool’s Autumn application round will be open from 15th August until 15th September, 2025. Some 1.6 million euro will be awarded in grants.

Suomalainen Tiedeakatemia julistaa haettavaksi Vilho, Yrjö ja Kalle Väisälän rahastosta apurahoja matemaattis-luonnontieteellisille tutkimusaloille. Rahasto tukee erityisesti matematiikan, fysiikan, meteorologian, geofysiikan ja astronomian aloilla tehtävää tutkimusta.
Apuraha tohtoriopintoihin mahdollistamaan vuoden mittaisen (28 000 euroa) ansiotyöstä vapaan työskentelyn.

TSV välittää tieteellisille seuroille opetus- ja kulttuuriministeriöltä saatavan valtionavustuksen julkaisutoimintaan ja kansainväliseen toimintaan. Tukea voidaan myöntää myös Suomessa toimivien yleistieteellisten seurojen ja tiedepoliittisten yhdistysten korkeatasoisen julkaisutoiminnan kuluihin. Tuki myönnetään vuodeksi kerrallaan.

The Federation of Finnish Learned Societies (TSV)
The Federation of Finnish Learned Societies (TSV) facilitates the state subsidies for publication activities and international activities from the Ministry of Education and Culture to scientific societies. Subsides can also be granted to general scientific societies and science policy associations active in Finland for their high-quality publication activities expenses. The subsidies is granted for one year at a time.
