DOCTORAL DEFENCE
Lorenzo Giombi, M.Sc. will defend the doctoral dissertation entitled “Cosmological first-order phase transitions with large bubbles – beyond conformal fluid and flat spacetime” in the Faculty of Science, University of Helsinki, on 5 November 2025 at 12:00. The public examination will take place at the following address: Exactum, B123, Pietari Kalmin katu 5.
Professor Germano Nardini, Stavanger University, will serve as the opponent, and Mark Hindmarsh as the custos.
The dissertation will be published in the series HIP-Internal Report Series.

THE OPEN SCIENCE AND RESEARCH WINTER CONFERENCE 2025
Time and venue: 2.12. – 4.12.2025, the University of Helsinki and the House of Sciences and Letters in Helsinki. The theme of the Winter Conference is “As open as possible.” The event is organised by the National Coordination for Open Science and Research together with the University of Helsinki.
The program will be in Finnish, but automatic translation tools are available for online participants. Most of the programme will be streamed, but some sessions will only be accessible on-site. It is also possible to register only for selected sessions, each of which has a separate registration option on the form.

(In Finnish) Suoviljelysyhdistys ry:n tutkimusapurahat
Yhdistys rahoittaa erityisesti hankkeita, jotka edistävät viljelyyn otettujen turvemaiden maatalouskäyttöä, soiden kasviperäisten raaka-aineiden jalostamista sekä turpeen ja sammalen hyödyntämistä ammatti- ja harrasteviljelyssä ilmastoa ja muuta ympäristöä hyödyttävällä tavalla. Rahoitettavat hankkeet voivat sisältää myös stipendejä ja matka-avustuksia yksityisille tutkijoille ja tutkimuslaitoksille.
Suoviljelysyhdistys ry:n tutkimusapurahat vuodelle 2026 ovat haettavana 1.10.-16.11.2025. Apurahoja voidaan myöntää enintään 50 000 EUR, josta rahoitetaan tyypillisesti useita hankkeita.

The Finnish Cultural Foundation awards grants for scientific and artistic work as well as for projects and acquisitions from the October round of applications.
