(In Finnish) SUOMALAISEN TIEDEAKATEMIAN VÄISÄLÄ-HANKEAPURAHA

Apuraha on tarkoitettu Suomessa toimivalle professorin vakinaistamispolun alkuvaiheen tutkijalle (hakija) oman tutkimusryhmän perustamisen ja ryhmän tutkimuskuluihin. Vakinaistamispolun alkuvaiheen tutkijalla tarkoitetaan henkilöä, jonka ensimmäisestä tohtorintutkinnosta on kulunut enintään 10 vuotta (urakatkokset huomioidaan). Rahoitusta myönnetään fysiikan, matematiikan, geofysiikan, tähtitieteen ja meteorologian aloille. Arvioinnissa painotetaan tutkimuksen tieteellistä laatua ja rahoituksen vaikuttavuutta. Monitieteisyys katsotaan eduksi.

Apuraha on kolmevuotinen ja suuruudeltaan kokonaisuudessaan 200 000 euroa. Osa apurahasta maksetaan työskentelyapurahana tutkimusryhmän jäsenille ja osa tutkimuskuluihin kohdistettuna rahoituksena.

Haku on kaksivaiheinen. Ensimmäisessä vaiheessa (ensimmäinen vaihe 1.–31.1.2026) toimitetaan aiesuunnitelma. Ensimmäisen vaiheen aiesuunnitelma liitteineen tulee olla lähetetty viimeistään 31.1.2026 klo 24.00. Myöhästyneitä hakemuksia ei käsitellä.

“Computational Study of Coxsackievirus B3 Capsid Stabilizers”

Abstract: Coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3), a common enterovirus, is a leading cause of cardiac inflammation. A recently identified interprotomer pocket, formed at the interface of two VP1 and one VP3 capsid proteins, represents a promising target for antiviral development(Abdelnabi et al., 2019; Flatt et al.,2021). Compounds that bind to this site, such as certain benzene sulfonamides, are known to stabilize the viral capsid and inhibit the release of its genetic material, effectively blocking infection. In this work, multiple structural and computational analyses are performed on a library of 321 benzene sulfonamide variants and the capsid protein unit, as well as the Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, and Excretion (ADME) properties of each compound. The restricted Lipinski’s rule is then applied to select drug-like candidates. To ensure more statistical confidence in our predictions, a consensus molecular docking is performed by using three different tools (Rosetta, Auto dock Vina, and Glide-IFD). By combining the docking scores using a z-score method, we identified several common hits that show potential for the target pocket. These top-ranked candidates are advanced to molecular dynamics simulations and later MMPBSA method to characterize their dynamics, interactions, binding free energy and stability more precisely. The most promising compounds identified through this comprehensive computational approach are prioritized for synthesis and in vitro validation of their antiviral activity against CVB3.

Säätiön tehtävänä on tukea tieteellistä sekä soveltavaa tutkimusta ja kehitystyötä myöntämällä apurahoja hankkeiden toteuttajille. Säätiö tarjoaa mahdollisuuksia yksittäisille tutkijoille ja kehittäjille sekä tutkimus-/ kehittäjäryhmille. Haasteena on ruokkia nimenomaan sellaista kehitystä, jolla olisi elinympäristömme kannalta positiivista vaikutusta pitkällä tähtäimellä. Apurahojen hakuaika on jatkuva.

Inter-Country Travel Grant

Invite U.S. Fulbright scholars, teachers, professionals and advanced PhD students to Finland. Fulbrighters need to be on their Fulbright grant period during the Inter-Country visit (a maximum of 1-week visit).

Japani-Suomi Yhdistyksen Chujo Watanabe – rahastosta julistetaan haettavaksi yksi apuraha, suuruudeltaan JPY 300 000 käytettäväksi vuoden 2026 loppuun mennessä.

Apurahat on ensisijaisesti tarkoitettu Japanissa tapahtuvaan opiskelu- ja/tai tutkimustyöhön. Etusijalle asetetaan nuoret suomalaiset hakijat ja hakijalta edellytetään jonkinlaista japanin kielen taitoa. Aiempi osallistuminen Suomen ja Japanin väliseen ystävyystoimintaan on eduksi.

Säätiö julistaa nyt haettavaksi Osk. Huttunen Fellowship –apurahan lukuvuodelle 2026–2027. Apuraha on tarkoitettu professoreille ja muille akateemisesti meritoituneille, vähintään dosenttitasoisille senioritutkijoille. Se mahdollistaa pääsääntöisesti akateemisen lukuvuoden (12 kk) mittaisen tutkimuskauden Cambridgen yliopistossa, kuitenkin stipendiaatille parhaiten soveltuvalla aloitus- ja lopetusajalla.
