MATERIALS/BIO PHYSICS SEMINAR
Friday 10 April at 14.15, Exactum (CK111)
Andreas Tirkkonen
“Modeling the effect of additives on glass transition and chain dynamics in PHBV”
Abstract: A promising biodegradable alternative for food-packaging has turned out to be poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate), known as PHBV in short. However, drawbacks also exist, such as a low glass transition temperature (Tg), causing the material to lose beneficial properties when stored at ambient conditions. A solution is to blend PHBV with additive molecules to increase Tg, and molecular dynamics simulations can help when scanning over a large list of additives. The talk will present how to accurately determine Tg from simulation data together with the results from the additive scan.
