“GPGPU Acceleration of the Green’s Function Method based Photoelectrochemical Cell model”

Abstract: The feasibility of general purpose graphics processing unit (GPGPU) acceleration to the non-equilibrium Green’s function (NEGF) equation solver of a photoelectrochemical (PEC) cell model is investigated. PEC cells have great potential as a source of green energy and therefore it is important to make accurate computational models of them, which leads to potentially high computational cost.  Although the current model lacks electron-photon scattering, which is essential for a complete model, from the results it is possible to assess the viability of GPGPU acceleration in the case of a complete model.

Kumpula Physics Colloquium: Friday (14.04.20223) at 14:15 in Chemicum A129: Tuomas Lappi

The next Kumpula Physics Colloquium in the spring series will take place on Friday (14.04.2023) at 14:15 in Chemicum A129 (note the change of the room!).

Our speaker is Tuomas Lappi, who is a Professor at University of Jyväskylä and the director of the Academy of Finland Centre of Excellence in Quark Matter. Tuomas obtained his PhD from the University of Helsinki in 2005. After postdocs at Brookhaven National Laboratory and CEA/Saclay, he moved to the University of Jyväskylä in 2009. He obtained an ERC Consolidator grant in 2015. Since 2022, he is the director of the Academy of Finland Centre of Excellence in Quark Matter. His research revolves around the interactions of quarks and gluons in high energy collisions, such as relativistic heavy ion collisions aiming to produce deconfined quark matter in the laboratory.

The title of his talk is The Electron-Ion Collider EIC – the most powerful microscope on Earth”. Tuomas will introduce us to the physics program of the Electron-Ion Collider EIC.
