“New insight into the atmospheric oxidation of volatile marine sulfur species and their climate impacts”
Short abstract: Volatile marine sulfur species (VMSS) play an important role in the climate system through their impacts on aerosols and cloud properties. Whilst species like dimethyl sulphide (DMS) and methane thiol (MeSH) have been studied for several decades, much new insight has been gained in the last 10 years and in this talk I intend to share this as well as highlight the remaining open questions and research challenges.

- Tiedettä vai hölynpölyä – näennäistieteen lumo-tapahtumassa Tiedekulmassa (Yliopistonkatu 4, Helsinki) pe 11.9. klo 16–20 neljä yliopiston tutkijaa pohtii tieteen ja näennäistieteen suhdetta (puheet klo 17–19).
- In the Science or Nonsense – the Allure of Pseudoscienceevent at Think Corner (Yliopistonkatu 4, Helsinki) on Fri 11.9. at 16–20 four researchers from the university will discuss the relationship between science and pseudoscience (the presentations at 17–19).
The discussions will be in Finnish, but you are welcome to ask questions in English.

Suomalainen Tiedeakatemia julistaa haettavaksi Vilho, Yrjö ja Kalle Väisälän rahastosta apurahoja matemaattis-luonnontieteellisille tutkimusaloille. Rahasto tukee erityisesti matematiikan, fysiikan, meteorologian, geofysiikan ja astronomian aloilla tehtävää tutkimusta.
Apuraha tohtoriopintoihin mahdollistamaan vuoden mittaisen (29 000 euroa) ansiotyöstä vapaan työskentelyn.
Apurahoja tutkijoille lyhytaikaisiin (1–6 kk) tutkimusvierailuihin ulkomaisissa yliopistoissa ja tutkimuslaitoksissa sekä ulkomaisten tutkijoiden kutsumiseen Suomeen.
Post doc -apuraha alkuvaiheen (enintään 3 vuotta väitöksestä, urakatkokset huomioidaan) post doc -työhön mahdollistamaan kahden vuoden mittainen työskentely (40 000 euroa / vuosi).
