Sarkkinen Miika, FM, TM will defend the doctoral dissertation entitled “Memory Effects in Gravity and Gauge Theories” in the Faculty of Science, University of Helsinki, on 13 October 2023 at 13:00. The public examination will take place at the following address: Physicum, sali E204, Gustaf Hällströmin katu 2.
Professor Jorma Louko, University of Nottingham, will serve as the opponent, and Aleksi Vuorinen as the custos.
The dissertation will be published in the series HIP-Internal Report Series.

In the October round of applications, it is possible to apply for a regular working and/or expenditure grant or a special purpose grant, such as Art for Everyone, Additional Million-euro Funding to Science, Science Education, DNA in Time and Space and Eminentia grants. The Application Guidelines for Grants apply to all of these. Special purpose grants also have their own detailed additional guidelines.

The Walter and Andrée de Nottbeck Foundation
The Nottbeck foundation prioritizes Tvärminne based research, which contributes to understanding the structure and function in complex marine ecosystems. Presently the focus of research is in understanding functional biodiversity, biogeochemistry and long-term changes in the marine environment in relation to eutrophication and climate change. An important part of this work is modelling and synthesis based on long-term data.

Magnus Ehrnrooth Foundation
The Magnus Ehrnrooth foundation awards grants annually for researchers working in mathematics, physics, astronomy, chemistry, and medical chemistry. The foundation is one of the most important foundations that support research in these areas in Finland. The aim of the Runar Bäckström foundation is to encourage and support inventions that are beneficial to Finnish businesses and thereby strengthen their global competitiveness.
